We are now on the ground floor of the most awesome volunteer-oriented marketing campaign ever in information technology history. Linux is a 18-year-old operating system suitable for running computers of all types: desktops, laptops, netbooks, embedded systems, telephony, entertainment, servers, and the world’s fastest supercomputers. Those who already use Linux know that it can perform and exceed the possibilities of any other computing platform on the market place. Why? Because it is open. Any company, not-for-profit organization, or individual is free to create a custom Linux-based operating system.

Great diversity has created much innovation for the field of computer information science within industry, academia, and community-oriented projects. Because Linux is open, there is no one Linux company to produce media and messages in which to market its products as a whole. The result is many corporations who make Linux-based products will focus on showcasing their brand in their marketing campaigns. In fact, many people are already using Linux without knowing it.

How is one to know if they “Got Linux?” That is where the Linux Dairy Council comes in. When dairy farmers in the United States decided that they were going to put their regional competitive differences aside, they developed one of the world’s most famous marketing campaigns ever: “Got Milk?” Together as Linux enthusiasts, we can and will develop a strong message to encourage Linux adoption. The world will prosper in the success of Linux because it is free and open software instead of the benefit of the proprietary products of one company.

Interested?

Here at this blog we will demonstrate how Linux is growing in the market place and share Linux-adoption success stories.

We are currently forming a committee of diverse people who will develop and execute the marketing campaigns. Check out the about page for details.

There will be a wiki for those who have ideas for messages and campaigns such as presentations to give to audiences who currently do not use Linux.
